Healthcare authorities in Nordic countries are aware of the importance of cooperation to deal with common challenges. In September 2015 the Chief Executives from Helse Nord RHF in Norway, Lapland hospital district, Länsi-Pohjan hospital district and Oulo hospital district in Finland, Norrbotten County Council and Västerbotten County Council in Sweden, signed an agreement on long-term strategic cross-border cooperation in health care.
The overall goal is to improve the health of the population and the quality of health and medical care, particularly in the context of cross-border cooperation.
A joint secretariat is established at Norrbotten County Council, Luleå.
